TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – Vice President Jusuf Kalla hopes that the deliberations of tax amnesty bill will be completed soon. The government expects to have the tax amnesty bill passed before the recess period of the House of Representatives (DPR).
“If not at the end of this month, [it will be done] early next month,†Kalla said yesterday at the Vice President Office, Jakarta. According to him, there is no longer any problem in the deliberations with the House of Representatives. “Basically, the DPR has no problem [with the deliberations of tax amnesty bill].â€
According to Kalla, the deliberations of tax amnesty bill is currently more focused on the tax rates of repatriated funds and declared funds that are not repatriated. In addition, the issue of tax amnesty implementation, the mechanism to collect the funds, and the mechanism to deposit the funds are also being deliberated with the parliament.
In the draft tax amnesty bill, the government proposes redemption rates of 1, 2 and 3 percent for taxpayers that choose to repatriate their funds. And 2, 4 and 6 percent for those who report their funds but do not repatriate it.
Earlier, Director Executive of Center for Indoensia Taxation Analysis Yustinus Prastowo considers that redemption rates set up by the government as too low. He proposes redemption rates of 5 to 10 percent.
According to Prastowo, the rates will put the government in a stronger position. Because by 2018, the Automatic Exchange of Information will be implemented, whereby several countries may disclose their information, including tax data. “You can take it [tax amnesty offer] or leave it, as it [the funds] may be pursued two years from now anyway,†he said.
